Warning:
Although colored contacts are shipped factory sealed and sterile, if you fail to use good hygiene or the recommended solutions correctly, you can still get an eye infection especially if you then wear your lenses overnight. Also, do not open the lens containers unless you have the proper solutions and a clean lens storage case available for use. Never share your colored contact lenses with others or use their contact lenses if you don't want to get an eye infection. For those who buy contact lenses online, we strongly recommend the following eye care instructions:
1. Always wash your hands before handling your colored contacts, and clean and disinfect your contact lenses everytime you remove them from your eyes. Don't just top off the storage solution but replace it completely with fresh sterilizing storage solution each time before storing the lenses. Tap water will not do because it isn't sterile or safe. Remember to clean out the lens case at least once a week and leave it air dry before replacing the storage solution. Also it's best to use a brand new lens case every few months especially if your present lens case is starting to look dirty. Always rinse off and sterilize the lenses if they touch anything but your clean lens case, your clean fingers and your healthy eyes. This is proper hygiene and also helps prevent eye infections.
2. Clean, rinse, disinfect and soak your colored contact lenses with multipurpose solution, to maintain sterility when not wearing the contact lenses. These solutions can be purchased at your local drug store or major grocery store.
3. If one eye starts to bother you more than the other, place the right lens on the left eye and the left lens on the right eye for a few minutes, to determine if your lens is bad, or if your eye is getting irritated from over-wearing the contact lenses. If, during the switch, the same eye continues to bother you, you probably are over-wearing the contact lens and need to give your eyes a rest. If the opposite eye starts to bother you, something is wrong with that lens. Be sure the lens is not inside out. Try cleaning the contact lens. If cleaning doesn't help, the contact lens will probably need to be replaced and returned to the correct eye.
4. NOTICE: Never wear the lenses if your eyes start to hurt, if your eyes get red, if your vision blurs, or if your eyes get sensitive to light. Seek professional care immediately if you stop wearing the contact lenses and your eyes do not improve quickly. You may be getting an eye infection and need treatment especially if you start to get a pussy discharge from your eyes as well. This can become very serious.
5. Put on your colored contacts after using hair spray and before applying make-up. Do not wear contact lenses while swimming.
6. Dirty and/or dry contact lenses from not enough blinking causes most wearing problems. Blink more and clean your contact lenses each time they are removed from your eyes or once a week at least if you sleep in your lenses. Another common cause is wearing contact lenses that are damaged or worn out and need to be replaced. Soft contact lenses are very delicate and tear easily. Handle them carefully.
7. Some notice a slight blur to the side when first wearing colored contactlenses. This is normal and is caused by the colour in the lens.
8. Although the FDA and the contact lens manufacturers have approved sleeping in these contact lenses for up to a week at a time, we agree with the advice of most eye doctors that it is a lot safer to take the lenses out while sleeping. They have found that the rate of complications such as red eye and eye infections is less than 1/10 of those that sleep in their contact lenses, so we recommend that you do not sleep while wearing your contact lenses except for maybe taking a short nap during the day. Take the lenses out before you go to bed at night to play it safe.
